Guinea pigs are small sociable rodents. There are many breeds and varieties.
Typically, guinea pigs live for 5-6 years. Bedding should be changed daily to prevent high levels of ammonia from urine and large quantities of faeces that may contaminate food and water.
Guinea pigs love to play outside but be warned they do like to chew on anything.
In addition to pellets Guinea pigs enjoy a wide variety of vegetables, including: carrots, parsley, broccoli leaves, red and green peppers, kale and radish tops. Hay should also be made available. Alfalfa hay should be avoided as it is too high in calcium.
